As the sun sets on 2023 and I reflect on AAPA’s journey, I am extremely proud of the collective efforts of all AAPA members and our Executive team in the fight against audiovisual piracy. Despite the disappointment of the European Commission’s Recommendation on Combating Live Event Piracy, and the lack of any uniform legal means to address live event piracy, we have remained steadfast in tackling the problem. We have educated consumers on the cybersecurity risks of using pirate devices and services; built innovative technologies to better protect content and to detect and prevent piracy; engaged with key intermediaries in the piracy ecosystem to improve co-operation; and collaborated with our law enforcement partners to increase their capabilities and capacity to investigate and prosecute IP crimes. In 2024 we will continue to do more and build upon our achievements to date.
